Please note: The residential Physical Therapy Summer Academy for Summer 2025 is now filled to capacity. There are still remaining spots in the commuter Physical Therapy Summer Academy.

Applications that are currently underway may be placed on the Wait List for that program, but admission into the residential program is not assured. Students will be given the option to enroll in the commuter academy instead.

Are you thinking about a career in physical therapy?

Learn about the exciting field of physical therapy and the Exercise Science major that provides an ideal track to the Rutgers' Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Graduate Program.

Students in the Physical Therapy Summer Academy will receive advice on how to prepare for this growing field from academic advisors and professionals in the field. Students will tour the Functional Human Anatomy Labs and visit the Rutgers DPT Graduate Program Campus.

Program Overview

What is the Physical Therapy Academy?

An in-person residential or commuter summer program for pre-college students to learn about the field of physical therapy through academic lessons and hands-on experiences

Who can apply?

High school students completing their sophomore and junior year, ages 16 to 18 by Summer 2025

When is the Physical Therapy Academy?

Two one-week sessions will run for students to choose between in either a residential or commuter program

Residential Session (closed): Sunday, July 13 to Saturday, July 19, 2025
Commuter Session (open): Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 8, 2025

Where will the Physical Therapy Academy take place?

All students will attend classes, eat meals, engage in activities, and residential students will also reside in a dorm on the Rutgers–New Brunswick campus in New Jersey

Do students earn credit for the Physical Therapy Academy?

Both residential and commuter students will earn 1.5 college credits upon completion of this academy through the course, 01:377:144 Foundations of Kinesiology and Health. 

Academy students will attend daily academic workshops, lectures, tours, and activities, taught by Rutgers faculty and supervised by program assistants (PAs), and resident assistants (RAs).

Protection of Minors

The University has adopted a Protection of Minors Policy to promote the well-being and safety of minors who participate in programs or activities run by or associated with Rutgers. The policy includes requirements relating to reporting suspected abuse or neglect of minors, completing relevant online training, and undergoing background checks for Authorized Adults and people in Direct Contact Positions as defined by the policy.
