Please note: Both sessions of the Engineering Summer Academies for Summer 2025 are now filled to capacity. 

Applications that are currently underway may be placed on the Wait List for that program, but admission into the residential program is not assured.

   

Exploration of Engineering for Tomorrow's Innovators

The Engineering Summer Academy at Rutgers University provides high school students with an introduction to aerospace, biochemical, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, forensic, industrial, material science, mechanical and systems engineering disciplines and careers. Students will enhance their math and science skills by learning how to analyze and interpret data and use quantitative models.

Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Engage in hands-on, goal-directed projects
  • Gain an understanding of how engineering is applied in the real world
  • Become familiar with college campus life and how to take advantage of the wide variety of resources and infrastructure to promote your own self-development
  • Learn how to document and communicate your work to peer audiences and the general public using informed and factual perspectives

What is the Engineering Academy?

A residential, in-person summer program for pre-college students to learn about engineering disciplines

Who can apply?

High school students completing their sophomore and junior year, ages 16 to 18 by Summer 2025

When is the Engineering Academy?

Two one-week sessions will run for students

Session I (closed): Sunday, July 13 to Saturday, July 19, 2025 
Session II (closed): Sunday, July 20 to Saturday, July 26, 2025

Where will the Engineering Academy take place?

Students will attend classes, eat meals, engage in activities, and reside in a dorm on the Rutgers–New Brunswick campus in New Jersey

Academy students will attend daily academic workshops, lectures, tours, and activities, taught by Rutgers faculty and supervised by program assistants (PAs), and resident assistants (RAs).

Protection of Minors

The University has adopted a Protection of Minors Policy to promote the well-being and safety of minors who participate in programs or activities run by or associated with Rutgers. The policy includes requirements relating to reporting suspected abuse or neglect of minors, completing relevant online training, and undergoing background checks for Authorized Adults and people in Direct Contact Positions as defined by the policy. Non-University organizations that wish to operate programs or activities involving minors on RU campuses must ensure their programs are run consistent with the guidelines of the University’s Protection of Minors Policy and the Guide to Working with Minors.
