Please note: The Pre-Law and Mock Trial Summer Academy for Summer 2025 is now filled to capacity.

Applications that are currently underway may be placed on the Wait List for that program, but admission into the residential program is not assured.

 

 

Learn about the law as part of an immersive trial advocacy experience

This one-week program taught by a distinguished member of the Rutgers Law faculty is designed for anyone who has an interest in the law and government, who is considering a career in the legal field, who currently participates in or may want to participate in mock trial competitions, or who wishes to hone public speaking and advocacy skills.

Over the course of the week, you will learn the basics of civil and criminal law, sources of law, and the creation of law. Interactive lessons, mock trials, film clips, courtroom visits, and guest lecturers will provide you with a dynamic introduction to the constantly changing legal field. You will also be exposed to the many diverse career opportunities available in the legal field.

This specialized program will also advance your college preparedness by:

  • Enhancing your critical and analytical skills
  • Boosting your academic and personal confidence
  • Informing your college interest and career choice

A residential, in-person summer program for pre-college students to learn about the legal field and gain experience through mock trials

Who can apply?

High school students completing their sophomore and junior year, ages 16 to 18 by Summer 2025

When is the Pre-Law and Mock Trial Academy?

The one-week academy will be held
Sunday, July 13 to Saturday, July 19, 2025

Where will the Pre-Law and Mock Trial Academy take place?

Students will attend classes, eat meals, engage in activities, and reside in a dorm on the Rutgers–New Brunswick campus in New Jersey

Academy students will attend daily academic workshops, lectures, tours, and activities, taught by Rutgers faculty and supervised by program assistants (PAs) and resident assistants (RAs).

Protection of Minors

The University has adopted a Protection of Minors Policy to promote the well-being and safety of minors who participate in programs or activities run by or associated with Rutgers. The policy includes requirements relating to reporting suspected abuse or neglect of minors, completing relevant online training, and undergoing background checks for Authorized Adults and people in Direct Contact Positions as defined by the policy. Non-University organizations that wish to operate programs or activities involving minors on RU campuses must ensure their programs are run consistent with the guidelines of the University’s Protection of Minors Policy and the Guide to Working with Minors.
