Application Checklist

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible to attend:

  • Current high school students between the age of 16 to 18*
    • Must be 16 by the start date of the chosen course
  • Minimum 3.0 grade point average (unweighted)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or a Non-Citizen Permanent Resident
  • Some courses will require additional technology and/or prerequisite coursework. Please see course descriptions for details.


*Graduating, current high school seniors are not eligible for Summer Scholars program. Non-matriculating, non-Rutgers incoming students are able to register for Summer Session as a visiting student instead. Incoming Rutgers first-years are not eligible for the Summer Scholars Program or Summer Session.

All applicants must submit:

  • All applicants must complete and submit their online application and supporting documents.

  • Applicants must submit a current transcript with their unweighted GPA listed for review.
     

  • Applicants must submit a Parent/Guardian Permission Form, signed by their parent or guardian.

  • Applications are not considered complete unless applicants have a submitted letter of recommendation.

    The recommender/reference can be any teacher or individual who can speak to the applicant's educational or personal achievements.

    Applicants may upload their own letter of recommendation from their recommender of choice. Alternatively, recommenders may send their letters directly to summerscholars@rutgers.edu.

Application Deadlines

Session I courses:
The application for Session I courses is now closed for Summer 2025.

Session II courses:
The application for Session II courses is now closed for Summer 2025.

Admission Decisions

Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • If an applicant's application is complete with all required supplemental documents and our team does not have any further questions, an applicant will be notified within two or three weeks after submission.

    All students will receive an email with their admission decisions, so be sure to check the email included on the application.

  • Accepted students will be registered (upon availability) for their desired course(s) and receive an email confirmation with instructions on how to pay their bill.

  • Admission does not guarantee enrollment in a specific course. The courses available to Summer Scholars students can fill up quickly, as they are also available to Rutgers–New Brunswick undergraduate students.

    We recommend applicants to apply early to ensure they secure their spot in their selected course choice.
